Highland High School recognizes 11 Student-Athletes on Signing Day

Highland High School is pleased to recognize several additional student-athletes who recently committed to attend and play sports for their chosen college. They were honored during a “Signing Day” program held on May 11 in the HHS Auditorium. Congratulations to the following:

Corey Haney will attend the United States Merchant Marine Academy where he will join the wrestling team and study engineering. With over 100 career wins, Corey is an All-State Wrestler, 4-year letter winner, Greco State Champ, Freestyle State Placer and member of the Ohio National Team. He is the son of Bill and Jennifer Haney of Granger Township.

Griffin Albright will attend the University of Mount Union where he will play basketball and major in business/entrepreneurship. Griffin is a 3-year letter winner, Scholar-Athlete, Medina County All-Star MVP and Medina County Honorable Mention. He is the son of Carl Albright and Lori Towell of Sharon Township.

Baily Tessena will join the gymnastics team at Simpson College (Iowa) where she will study health and exercise science. Baily qualified for the Level 9-10 Regional Championships and Placed 10th on Balance Beam. She is the daughter of Bruce and Stacy Tessena of Granger Township.

Gabi Miller will attend the American International College (Massachusetts) and join the women’s rugby team. She plans to major in physical therapy. Gabi was a top scorer on the Highland Lady Buzzards Rugby Team and is a 2-year letter winner. She is the daughter of Ross and Kathy Miller of Hinckley Township.

Emily Perhacs will join the women’s rugby team at Queen’s University of Charlotte. She is currently undecided in her major course of study but will be involved with the ROTC. Emily is a 3-year letter winner, Scholar-Athlete, and was named Team Impact Player of the Year. She is the daughter of Mike and Maria Perhacs of Montville Township.

Henry Wilkes will attend St. Bonaventure (New York) where he will join the swim team and study health science. Henry is a 4-year letter winner, 4x District Qualifier, State Qualifier and Placed 9th in the 100 Yard Backstroke at the State Meet. He is the son of Mark and Julie Wilkes of Granger Township.

Aaron Filips will play football for Case Western Reserve University where he will study engineering/business. He was named 1st Team All-Suburban League (2x), Suburban League Offensive POY, 1st Team All-District and 2nd Team All-State. Aaron is the son of Don and Bonnie Filips of Granger Township.

Dominic Konopka will attend and play football for the University of Connecticut. He plans to major in business. Dominic was ranked as the #15 Long Snapper in the country and named All-Suburban League Offensive Lineman. He is the son of Mark and Beth Konopka of Sharon Township.

Jon Lima will play football for the University of Mount Union where he plans to study criminal justice. A 2-year starter for the Hornets, Jon was named a Suburban League Honorable Mention. He is the son of John and Melissa Lima of Hinckley Township.

Bryce Turek will attend and play football for Ohio Northern University where he plans to study manufacturing management. Bryce was a team captain for the Hornets and named 2nd Team All-Suburban League. He is the son of Robert Turek and Anessa Gomez of Sharon Township.

Grace Smith will join the volleyball team at Heidelberg University. She is currently undecided on her major course of study. Grace was named 1st Team All-Suburban League (2x), 1st Team All-Medina Gazette (2x), and received the Defensive MVP Award (2x). She is the daughter of Kevin and Nicole Smith of Hinckley Township.
