Charlotte Patricia (Pat) Grannis Pelto, born January 17, 1928 in Syracuse, NY; died Feb 28, 2018 in Saint Paul, MN, after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her three children; Gina, Joshua, and Dunja.
Pat graduated from Lodi High School in 1946 and went on to have a life of adventure, friendship and good work. She left Lodi for the University of New Mexico, majoring in Latin American Studies; then moved to Berkeley, California, where she helped run a restaurant, the Potluck, with her first husband, Edwin Brown. She remarried in 1960 and she and her husband, anthropologist Pertti Pelto, settled in Minnesota in 1961. Pat earned a Masters of Social Work from the University of Minnesota in 1966, and after divorcing in 1967, she took on the challenge of raising her three children alone while holding a job, at a time when that was uncommon. She was a social worker at Anoka State Hospital from 1967 to 1996.
Pat was an adventurer, a free thinker, a humanitarian, a good friend and a loving soul. She provided her kids with a cozy and beautiful home, and found time for cross-country road trips, creating expansive gardens, DIY home repair, and lots of reading. She played tennis until she was 89; and she always had time for stalking the perfect photo of cows, butterflies, or any of the beauty she saw in the world.
A Graveside Service and sharing of memories will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lodi.
