For the sixth year, the Subaru dealership in Brunswick, 2992 Center Road, gave a generous check, $16, 963, to Feeding Medina County as a part of its "Subaru Share the Love" program.

Each year, for more than 20 years, Subaru dealerships have designated a period of about six weeks during which they donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased to the customer's choice of charity, including its four national partners: ASPCA, Make-A-Wish, Meals on Wheels America, and National Park Foundation, and more than 670 Hometown Charities.

Each individual Subaru retailer also selects a hometown charity from their local community to support. For six years, the Brunswick Subaru dealership has selected Feeding Medina County to receive this donation.

On April 23, the sales staff at the Subaru dealership presented Feeding Medina County Executive Director Sandy Hinkle with the much-appreciated check, bringing the total donation to FMC over the six years to $176,058.80.

Hinkle shared that this money has paid for 48,635 Weekender bags for children (bags of food consisting of three meals and snacks to go home with students who attend county elementary schools, Head Start, and MCBDD locations). These bags provided 145,905 weekend meals to children across Medina County, a total of 340,445 pounds of food for children in need.

In turn, Hinkle presented General Manager Charlie Dodds with a symbolic decorated bowl from Feeding Medina County's fund raising event earlier this year. She also had many notes grateful children had written thanking FMC for its efforts to reduce the number of food insecure people in this county.

Ohio ranks 18th out of the 50 states for food insecurity. Medina County has a seven percent poverty rate; 20 percent of children in the county are food insecure, and 16 percent of seniors in the county are low income or do not qualify for assistance.

It is the vision of Feeding Medina County to be "the resource to fight hunger until the need no longer exists." FMC relies on contributions, and there are many ways to help the organization achieve this vision. A $16,527 check from Subaru was also presented to Stephanie Weber, representing Akron Children's Hospital.
