The very popular Black River Comedy Club will be celebrating its 30th anniversary with the performance of "Walkin' To New Orleans," this year's family-friendly, musical slapstick comedy presented at the Homerville Community Center.

BRCC is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization composed of an all-volunteer cast of area entertainers and technicians who have consistently assisted the efforts of many local and neighboring community organizations.

As it has done every year, the show, written by Betty Havel, Dr. Josie Rose, and Logan Clifford, promises laughter along with familiar musical numbers including "Battle Hymn of the Republic," "Busted," "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans," "Witchey Woman," "Cupid," "Blueberry Hill," "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay," "Love Potion Number Nine," "Marie LaVeau," and many more.

The now-familiar entertainers, plus some newcomers who will be appearing on stage for the two-act comedy, include Don Hange, Betty Havel, Darleen Jeffery, Julie Lambert, Wes Lambert, Bonnie Querin, Dave Rakes, Aaron Rose, Mike Todd, Jim Westermann, and Richard Wolf; dancing with Havel and Todd will be Barbara Calihan and JoAnn Wester.

All proceeds raised are donated to needy causes. Since its inception, BRCC has generously donated more than $300,000 to county organizations including American Cancer Society, Children's Center of Medina County, Feeding Medina County, American Ex-POWs, Medina County Arts Council (MCAC), HANDS Foundation, Ohio Regional Music Arts Cultural Outreach (ORMACO), Wayne County Committee for Crippled Children and Adults (WCCCCA), Mission to Amish People (MAP), and several area churches.

Other area groups that have benefited from their efforts include Black River and Cloverleaf School Districts, Boy Scouts, Fire and Police departments of Spencer, Sullivan and West Salem, Medina County Sheriff, Homerville Community Center, Homerville and Northwestern Ruritan Clubs, American Legion, Community Chest, Lodi Community Hospital, Good Samaritan, Lodi Historical Society, Spencer Historical Society, Pythian Sisters, Railroad Museum, and Village Parks.
