The unexpected snow the morning of March 31 did not keep staunch supporters from attending the breakfast reverse raffle fundraiser hosted by the Brunswick Eagles. The event was for the benefit of the Brunswick High School Marching Blue Devils Band.

Last fall, the Deputy Lord Mayor of Westminster flew to Ohio to personally and formally present the invitation to the band requesting its presence in London, where it will join an estimated 8,000 other distinguished performers from numerous nations around the world, all of whom will be participating in London's New Year's Day Parade January 1,2020. It is the world's largest parade.

Enthusiastic band members and band boosters, along with parents and a very strong community, have been conducting and/or supporting many fundraisers to help offset the cost of about $3,500 per student, the amount each band member must pay for what could be a once in a lifetime chance to travel to London to experience this exceptional opportunity.

The widely acclaimed Chef Bryant Watson, of Danbury Assisted Living, and his staff again prepared a hearty, delicious buffet enjoyed by everyone at the Eagles' aerie, 349 Pearl Road. Along with eggs, bacon, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit, fresh muffins and other pastries, the chef included his now-famous and very popular praline French toast.

Danbury Executive Director Deb Lougheed, her husband Doug Lougheed, and Danbury Sales and Marketing Director Jessica Jenkins helped serve at the buffet table while BHS band members hustled to keep beverage cups refilled, and cleared the tables before the raffle began.

In addition to the main event reverse raffle that had a grand prize of $1,500, attendees generously purchased sideboard tickets, bought ribbons of tickets for a chance to win one or more of the array of very inviting, all-donated raffle baskets, and took part in a number of other novel gaming opportunities, all the while adding to the funds raised for the band.

Watch for upcoming details about other fundraisers to support and enjoy that will be conducted between now and departure time for the benefit of the Brunswick Blue Devils Marching Band's exciting trip to London.
