The Brunswick Optimist Club Oratorical Contest scheduled to be held March 28 ran into a few snags because of the coronavirus outbreak, but quick thinking and resourcefulness during this time of necessary restrictions played an important role in allowing this year's students to compete safely.

Optimist Rick Buchanan was able to set up an on-line virtual contest between judges and contestants in which no one was breaking any of the current social distancing expectations. The contest went well, and qualified the winners to advance to the Regional Contest.

Marquis Globokar, of the Strongsville Club, took first place, Caleb Kocsis, also of the Strongsville Club, came in second, and Gabriella Falconer, of the Akron Club, was third. Globokar and Kocsis will now participate in the virtual, on-line Regional Competition scheduled for April 18.

The winners of the Regional Contest will move on to the District Contest where the top two contestants will each be awarded a $3,500 scholarship.
